Lamb Bodybuilding Machines - Description of Company

A manufacturer of plate-loaded muscle building machines that manufactured between 1987 and 2003.   Owned and operated by Henry Maag,  the company built extremely heavy-duty muscle building machines (perhaps, from a business standpoint, their downfall).   The company is credited with introducing the four-bar linkage to the plate-loaded exercise machine market as a durable means to apply a variably resistive force throughout an exercise stroke.   They had advertised it as "having durability comparable with that of a simple lever while applying force outputs comparable with that which could only be obtained by using a much less durable cam and chain or cable mechanism".   Their "1000 series" machines (an eighteen piece line constituting the pinnacle of their product line),  which they started building in 1994,  incorporated four-bar linkages for varying the applied resistive force (as all of their previous series had).   Because of their confidence in the inherent superiority of this linkage in terms of durability and reliability,  they now backed their four-bar linkages on the "1000 series" product line with symmetrical-about-centerline machine frames constructed of 4.0" round .226" wall steel pipe and moving parts constructed of .25" formed steel plate (constituting significantly heavier construction than anything else on the market during their span of business).   The line also featured mid-position racking mechanisms (either "foot" or "hand" actuated - depending on which was the "free limb") on almost the entire line,  allowing easy operator access to machines,  which,  in most cases,  due to greater ranges of motion than that of their competitors,  would have been difficult to access otherwise.   Unwilling to adapt to the competitive demands to build smaller and lighter (like their competitors were doing),  and not having the marketing knowhow or drive,  the company went out of business in 2003.   Any further information can be obtained by contacting Henry Maag at: henrymaag6@gmail.com
